Where to stay in Las Vegas for an upscale trip

Choose the north Strip if dinner at Wynn or The Venetian is a big part of the trip. Choose Downtown if you would rather build your days around Las Vegas history and your evenings around neon, restaurants and bars. For an upscale trip, start with the experiences you want to have close by.

Downtown gives you a concrete taste of the city’s neon heritage, including Vegas Vic, a historic neon sign. Fremont East, its entertainment district, adds retro-looking signs, dining and bars. You can build a day around a museum visit, then head out for dinner and drinks. The Strip choices below put resort restaurants at the centre of the stay instead.

Match your base to your plans

What anchors your trip Base and hotel options Main trade-off
Dining at Wynn and The Venetian North Strip, with Wynn hotel or The Venetian hotel as starting points Stay where those restaurants are; Downtown sightseeing means travelling between areas.
Neon, history and evenings around Fremont East Downtown, with Circa hotel as an option at Main and Fremont streets Keep Downtown experiences at the centre of your stay; repeated Strip dinners mean repeated travel, and the monorail does not reach Downtown.

North Strip for restaurant-led stays

If your dinner plans keep coming back to Wynn and The Venetian, make the north Strip your starting point. Casa Playa is a restaurant inside Wynn, serving Mexican coastal cuisine beneath a ceiling of cascading marigolds. It gives you a specific dinner to build an evening around.

Mott 32 is at The Venetian, south of Wynn. Its Chinese dishes draw on several regions, with a setting inspired by modern Hong Kong culture. If these are the meals you want to return to, consider staying at one of the hotels that houses them.

For another restaurant-led option, Superfrico is inside The Cosmopolitan hotel. Put that hotel on your shortlist if a dinner there is part of your plans.

Downtown for neon and history

Choose Downtown when its experiences are the main event. The Mob Museum explores organised crime and the law-enforcement agents who fought it, inside a former U.S. Post Office and Courthouse. It gives a day here substance beyond casino sightseeing.

Fremont East supplies the evening counterpart, with bars, restaurants and shops among retro-looking neon signs. Immediately west is the Fremont Street Experience, a pedestrian mall with an overhead LED screen and direct access to Downtown hotel-casinos.

Circa hotel sits at Main and Fremont streets. Consider it if you want your accommodation base in this part of Downtown.

For a different kind of afternoon, the 18B Arts District is an area of galleries, shops, restaurants and bars. Main Street offers a walkable concentration of dining and shopping within the district. Add it to your stay if browsing galleries between meals sounds like your kind of afternoon.

When your plans span both areas

The Las Vegas Monorail route runs between MGM Grand on the south Strip and SAHARA on the north Strip. It does not reach Downtown, so a Downtown stay brings separate transport into the picture whenever you head to the Strip.

If Wynn dinners dominate the trip and Downtown is an occasional outing, choose the north Strip. If museum visits and Fremont East evenings are what you want to repeat, choose Downtown and make Strip dining a deliberate excursion.
